how do i brush my son's teeth without him swallowing the tooth paste?

my son is 5 months old, and he got 2 teeth.
i brushed his teeth and i find it impossible to get him not to swallow the tooth paste. is there a way to avoid that? can a baby tooth paste be harmful?

The training toothpastes have no fluoride and don't pose the harm of adult toothpaste. But, until my son learns to spit a little, I just brush w/water. Otherwise, he just sucks the training toothpaste off the brush.
